A beautiful combination of original film photography, melted beeswax, and paint becomes a handcrafted, luminous, almost 3-dimensional piece that captures the sense of peace and the simple pleasure we get from the ocean and the world around us.
Each piece is one-of-a-kind and part of a limited edition, which means that the photographic image used to create the art will be limited to the quantity in a given size. For example, the image used in Steps To The Water will only be used to create up to 15 photo encaustic pieces in the 12x12 size. Once 15 are sold in that size, Steps To The Water will no longer be available.
Pieces are created on cradled wood panels, finished with clean, sealed edges, and signed and dated on the back. Do not display or store encaustic work behind glass.
Encaustic art is extremely archival, however care should be taken with your fine art purchase.
Normal household conditions will have no adverse effect on the piece, but avoid hanging a painting in an area that gets direct sun exposure (both because of the temperature issues and the damage sunlight causes to art). Care should also be taken to avoid freezing temperatures.
The encaustic medium (beeswax and damar resin) tends to “bloom” or become cloudy over time. Occasionally, you may gently buff the piece with a soft cloth or paper towel to remove the haziness and bring out the luminosity of the wax, or you may enjoy the subtle changes of the work as the wax hardens and cures for up to 3 years.
